Motivation. Some SCs, like AVSs which are sources of external data, cannot absorb the trust of the base chain; ¶external data source (oracle) service. Normally, they would do their own custom staking system, which has obviously many issues:
- Bootstrapping need. need to build their custom staking solution
- Variable cost. custom staking solution requires staker fees
- Fixed capital cost. Validators need to be found and they need to invest.
- Credit risk. If the AVS is dependent on other AVS, the risk is the weakest link.
Thus Eigenlayer proposes a new system.
