Difference between Art and Design

• Art is about the expression of human weaknesses (=“what is broken within us” =“art begins from what is broken”) and works within the limitations of the medium.
  • Respect for the boundaries of the medium is important
    • e.g. the fight between different styles of art
    • e.g. literary freedom to break grammar
• Design is about the creation of new things that are useful or pleasing to the senses as a means of direct expression.
  • Breaking the boundaries of the medium is another form
